Day 2 – Friday, April 14, 2023

Slept like a baby the first night in the campervan – the bed is surprisingly spacious and comfy. The campground was peaceful and quiet, and no serial killers tried to get us, Tony!

We spent the day at the Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo. I was there for the animals; Adam – less enamored of fauna – was there to humor me, and for the walk. (He’s on a three-year streak of 10,000+ steps a day and counting). My sister Amy would’ve enjoyed this waaaay more than Adam.

I took way too many pictures and videos to post, but here are a few:

Highlights for me were the giraffes, the otters, the positively pornographic meerkats, the yawning tiger, and the absolutely massive Galapagos tortoises (I wish my Dad could’ve seen them!).

We walked about 10 kilometres (or 6ish miles). My dogs were barkin’ by the end! (Adam had not heard this expression.) Conveniently, the closing of the zoo coincided with Happy Hour, so we finished off the afternoon at Dubbo’s Devils Hollow Brewery, a lovely spot with superfriendly staff where we indulged in a delicious chicken, camembert, and truffle (!) pizza and some local beer. (I had an alcoholic ginger beer and a hard lemonade).

After a full day, we headed back to the campervan early to plan our next couple of days.

    1. It was very cool, Lori. Australia’s answer to Jurassic Park. Would’ve loved to have you with me, as Adam not so keen on the animals. And that pizza was to die for! Really friendly staff at the brewery, too. x
